FEMALES OF THE FUTURE

Growing up in Bonteheuwel has added much to my character. It's a part of who I am and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Although I have great vision, my background and roots are what ground me and help me remain the humble Donna. Still residing in the hood and having memories of where it all started, I am now able to make informed decisions about my future. I hope that my future success will inspire the generation I grew up with and the generations to come. Anything can happen. You are the future! Make it happen!

"A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing. She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and only herself." - Maya Angelo

The block of mini supermarkets (also known as 'Bontifair') is where we got our daily loaf of bread and litre of milk.

I styled this look around this statement tee. It gives off a minimal vibe while making a huge statement. These pants also need a moment of their own. I call them my des-pa-cito pants. The story behind the name was basically inspired by how they make me want to salsa every time I have them on.

Old Skool Vans are one of my wardrobe essentials. Although I am not a skater, they make me feel like one. I obviously had to be EXTRA and rock this platformed pair. Yaaaaas!

Public transport has given me a sense of independence in a simple way. I am forever grateful for my friend, Melandri, who also grew up in the hood. She taught me how to be street smart and make the most of public transport. I can get around Cape Town on my own with ease thanks to her. My mom's just as grateful. It saved her from becoming grey sooner.

Adventurous rides listening to Bruno Mars remixes. I am still amused by how they could transform a sad song into a happy one with just a few beats. You even forget it was a sad song to begin with!
